Gimme back my stuff

.
I had boys on purpose.
I could never see myself doing complicated girlything hairstyles, buying two lots of make-up, and I had no wish to share my shoes with anyone. I was not designed for girls and often got cross (after my second boy) when people inquired whether I was trying for a girl.
No. No. No. Girl's were not for me and I had absolute faith in my theory that you got what you were supposed to get. However, there is now a problem.

My jewelery box is half empty. A number of bracelets and necklaces have stupidly migrated past the door to the Pit Of Teenage Desires, and I am left with poor, lonely, odd earrings who will never be re-united with their twins. Beads and bangles have all left home and found new territory on a hairier wrist.

The perpetrator is Big Fecker, jewel thief extraordinaire, capable of stealing my goodies and flaunting them in his earlobe.
I turned a blind eye to my hair products disappearing overnight and laughed heartily when he could do nothing with his newly washed mop that had developed some curls where once there was none. I even ignored him stealing my hats because he had quite a healthy stock for me to pinch
But we do share a love of jewels. Not expensive gold, or precious stones, but trinkets to adorn the holes we have made (I wonder if piercing is genetic?).

I suppose I have to thank the Gods that I have no browbars to nick, or treasures to fill his labret, and I can only hope and pray that he never decides to have his nose pierced - I will be naked!

Three boys, one girl. I never felt so old, old ,old as when my daughter was born...
I'm good at plaiting hair though!

Hmph! Try keeping five boys in trinkets. I have one pair of earrings left that I hide and and have to keep finding new hidey holes for. Son number three has taken to wearing tights, usually his girlfriend's but sometimes mine. Son number two has just had his nipple pierced. Painted nails, coloured hair. Now I know how David Bowie's mum felt.
I unlike you was trying for a girl. This is my punishment I guess.
Nice photo darling.

I am good at plaiting as well but crap at doing it for someone else.

Ahh, Noony, five boys all trying to express their individuality? Mine would luck out on tights though.
Big Fecker like to change his hair colour (hmm, wonder where he got that one from). We had untold trouble at school where you could be a natural redhead but not an un-natural redhead.

I have a 50/50 split - boys with as diverse personalities as the pea pod would allow and the grils, well, permanently matted hair has led to a well hard outlook on how grils should look - in our house anyway! There is the exception of the Girl twin... can't blame the milkman for her :)

PS treasure that picture! He is what Genni would say is, cute!

I am HOWLING!!! What a wonderful picture!!! I have to boys but no piercings. One did however take a plush purple riding jacket I'd bought by mistake. "It'll look great on stage mom!"

I loved this!!!

Lovely photo. My boys don't nick my jewelry because I hardly have any. Saves a lot of trouble...

See now, I got smart, I get to keep all my shiny things to myself, just like a magpie (or was that a chicken?)

And erm... uh... you're worried about him piercing his nose... what about all those other potential piercing places - now them, I'd really worry about!

Lovely mother and child moment, that pic :-)

i'm at the other end.

i love girls. i have one. and i don't mind another one.

i think my patience will be severely tested by my boys, if i have them.

How could anyone resist that cheeky look?

Well, I could for one and will be stashing my jewels safely away come mid-August. Hands off, BF!

Unknown said...

I can't resist either of them, Debi, they are both gorgeous, but do watch your goodies!

I think children should be free to explore their 'look' as it reinforces a good self-identity. BF is definitely exploring his but has yet to catch up with me on the piercings!

All mine are relatively unpierced and I don't have anything they could steal anyway... Apart from socks... and one of them stole my toothbrush..Come to think of they do nick my stuff, just not the same stuff...

I hope he doesn't get the todger pierced, he'll be peeing like a watering can!

Now there's a thought. For chrissakes don't let him know about Stapled Stan!

John G, all Minx has to do is give him Rupert Thomson's The Book of Revelation - which I recommend highly BTW - and he will never consider todger-piercing.

No need for Stan the Man, Debi. I once mentioned a 'Prince Albert' (Why is it called that? Did he?)and Big Fecker went pale and grabbed his tackle. No worries there.

It is weird to think that I had to plead with my parents to allow me to pierce my ears (the first time). In later years my mum considered the tattoo on my shoulder to be 'rather pretty'. Times change.

Must say I wasn't quite expecting no. 1 boy at approaching 13, to be cross dressing. At the moment we're the same shoe size and share a jacket.

I just deodorise the plimsolls and remove the 'I'm Spartacus'* badge when I hit town.

(* Badge purchased at Bookseller Crow. You can get cool books there too.)

Oh, oh, I love badges and I wouldn't get rid of the Spartacus one. Johnathan at the Bookseller Crow gave me a 'Neighbourhood Witch' badge which I treasure. I also have a teeny-weeny one which says in teeny-weeny letters - 'piss off'. In fact I haven't seen it for a while.........

badges that say 'piss off' in teeny weeny letters? have you had munchkinsn working in your house again, Minx?

Aww, that is too cute. I was threatened with a severe pistol whipping, if I neared me moms treasure trove of goodies. :-)

Love the photo
You are however scaring me a bit, my son is 11, there is no telling what is (up ahead) around the corner. Not even so much for myself ( I don't have much jewelry) but I know I shall be in the middle, between him and his dad if opinions differ on appropriate personal presentation. My husband used to be punk, and had rather long hair he gelled straight up, but surprisingly that doesn't make him open to our son expressing himself in such ways. Our son likes his hair long and shaggy. ...yada yada
I was trying for a girl, and sometimes I wish I had one (in addition to my son). But I am starting to see, that even though I have a fondness for pale pink, and cutesy things, that doesn't mean I would be a good mother for a girl.

There are always munchkins, Cailleach.

Hope you avoided the pistol whipping, Jefferson. Poor thing.

Taffiny - I really believe that we have the children we are supposed to. A long time ago a friend, who has a Down's Syndrome child, said that she was given her daughter because she could cope and it was meant to be. Profound words.
I do often question my own theory though - why do boys do such stupid things?

I also think that you should try and remeber what you were like at that age - err, maybe not!!

When my oldest girl was going through her goth phase, nothing was sacred. Anything that could be worn and was either black, red or purple was put to use, whether it was a piece of jewellery or a feather duster! I wouldn't be without my girls, though. After all, who would I nick stuff off?

Minx,

Laughed so much at this... how funny, the irony.

They aren't into the makeup yet are they?

Punk doesn't do makeup, but glam does... Poison isn't coming around there are they? (the old 80's rock band)... THEN I would worry about the makeup...

giggles...

Do you see, Sharon? My theory is right - you don't mind!

And Scarlett, I seem to remember wearing an awful lot of black eyeliner as a punk. When BF went through his (retro) punk phase he found that eyeliner itched his eyes - phew!

haha, I am the girl.. and let me put your mind at rest.. I do not have the same taste in jewelerry as my mom and her shoes are too small.. and honoustly very much not my taste either! My brother? we shared jeans for a while, and he will steal an occasional sweater but then, I steal his. Make up?!?! it better be waterproof or it'll end up everywhere and I limit it to mascara. trust me not all girls are the same! but if you cannot nick jewellery there is enough other things your parentshave that are very easily put to use :)
