Ad-vice

"You really shouldn't smoke".
"I am barely steaming" I replied "Just watch it when I start to smoulder."

I was surprisingly annoyed at this woman who said her piece and walked away. After a hectic morning I was perched on the wall outside work topping up my nicotine levels - I wasn't bothering anyone. I object to someone catching me mid-vice.

Does this woman not have any vices? I could have told her that her mardy face irritated me or that she really shouldn't be seen in that dreadful coat and besides, I am sure that she has a prized collection of vices waiting at home for her.

The comments box of the last post was full of lazy-assed people regaling tales of happy slothfulness and I must admit I like my vices. They keep me going through the day and bring a little joy into my sorry, addicted life. I can probably cover most of the seven deadly sins (except I don't do jealousy) in a twenty-four hour period and any that I might have missed are happily added into my weekend programme.

I have tried to have guilt over my vices and sins but I am hopeless. I love a little wickedness in my life and surely I am not the only one who bit deep into the apple?

You tell her to piss off Minx!

I'm 7 months clean now!

Being dirty is a vice? Oh shit, there's another one.

'bit deep into the apple?' Hell, I ate the core, pips and all!

Now if that apple was a toffee apple, smothered in chocolate sauce and washed down with a large gin while sprawled on the settee smoking ...

I watched an episode of Oprah recently, geered at helping people to quit smoking (not one of my vices. And I admit to you, I do not like breathing in smoke).
But instead of my coming away thinking how important it is for people to stop, I came away thinking it was about time we stop harassing people for smoking. It was like they were criminals freely commiting horrible acts against themselves and those around them. There was lots of guilt and shame.
I could not imagine having my vices, so freely displayed and judged by others.

I'll add 'greed' to your list then, Babs - heh!
I can perfectly understand the need for the 10 commandments (most religions/belief systems have a moral code) but why are we made to feel so guilty about our lovely sins?

Now what about yer vices, Debi?

We make choices, Taff, that is what being ooman means.
The government likes to be seen to be looking after our health but perhaps their healthy option would be to stop sending young people off to useless wars!

I have just rolled another fag Ms Minx - I like a nice dark tobacco myself and have some Old Holborn and some Drum. Nice.

Once when travelling by train from Koln to Brussels I was smoking in my smoking seat, when two of those horrible Oprah type Americans were nearby and kept complaining to the Guard... I have never seen people so angry about something that was nothing to do with them...

I am quite happy not to pollute those around me in an enclosed enviroment, Muts, but I do miss smoking in the pub! A train journey is a bit tedious as well.
I like Golden Virginia and the odd cigar.

Not too long ago, I was standing outside having a smoke and a lady wearing a fur coat admonished me.
"Do you drive a car?" I asked.
"Well, yes I do," she answered.
"Standing beside your tailpipe for 5 minutes is a helluva lot more toxic than this cigarette so f**k off!"
That shut her up rather quickly...
We're social pariahs now, aren't we?!?

Delightfully splenetic, Minx, and "mardy" is such a splendid word.

I only gave up smoking because of the ban, otherwise I loved a good gasper! I just couldn't be bothered to struggle to get outside in mid-winter for a smoke.

I reckon I never bit deep enough, Minx, more's the pity. And I have given up smoking. But if anyone comes at you like that again, just quote D.H. Lawrence, who said

With should and ought I have nothing to do.

That'll shut them up.

You can call yourself a pariah if you wish, Trollop, I am a paragon of Virginian tobacco!

Splenetic - nice sort of word too, Pund.
'Mardy cow' says so much, don't you think?

Have to say I cut down on my outdoor pursuits in the winter, John G!

"With should and ought I have nothing to do" - oh I love that, Signs, thank you.

Chocolate is not a vice.
"Do all things in moderation as often as you can."

Most folk ( worth knowing) bite a bit into apoples ( and I know some who eat the core as well)

I'm not sure of the logistics, but high and mighty is always very shallow.

Judge not, lest ye be judged... you could say to her. It's the biblical version of mind your own God blessed business.

Missed you very much Minx, so glad to be back. I'll be catching up on my laughter and naughty giggles for days now...

PS ~ I love that picture... Smokin...
