5 strengths I have as a writer

Oh joy.

Thanks, Scarlett. My 'love' of meme's is well documented, but here goes......

1. I am a storyteller.
In days of old when knights were, well, an organised bunch of hooligans really, their lord and master kept them all on the moral and spiritual path by employing a bard to sing and tell them stories. Through the ages this was how messages/lessons were passed on when the printed word was nothing more than a few religious words painstakingly copied by monks with bleeding fingers.
I am nothing more than a latter day teller of tales, a bardess, who can commit words to paper in some sort of order.
Therefore, I am a spinner of yarns

2. My second strength lies in my strong physique.
I have an uncanny ability to stay in one position for hours on end and have developed a bottom that could crack walnuts.
Therefore, I am a professional lazy cow.

3. I am crap at maths but I can see patterns in words.
I spend a lot of my time looking at the lovely words, stroking them, tweaking them, gently moving them around and making them into neat little lines.
Therefore, I am obsessed.

4. I can lie convincingly.
I would like to think that I can make you believe that I know what I'm talking about. Some would call it bullshit, but I prefer to think of it as embroidering the truth.
Therefore, I am a liar.

5. I don't live in the real world. I mostly carry some other world/place around in my head all day long. It is more real to me than anything else and there is really no point in talking to me because you really don't exist.
Therefore, I'm nuts.

.
I am supposed to tag, so I tag everyone in my blogroll, so there!

Oh 5, I am afraid I live right there. I try to convince myself to leave and join all the rest, but really, I don't want to.

4. But I can't do 4 at all. Lies wont lie right for me, they wobble and sink, of them I can't think. Lies reguire remembering what the heck you are saying, what you said yesterday and last Tuesday, and having a verbal plan. No, far to hard for me.

Now 2, is amazing, crack walnuts, I was quite pulled away from the piece trying to imagine such an ability. I am certain I could never manage such an accomplishment. And equally certain that you could make a good living just doing that alone.

It reminds me of the quote, by some known Australian writer- that the writer, is the one with the best bum glue. The one who is able to get oneself in a chair, and stay there for the longest period of time, writing.
So yes, you are right, you have a write butt.

very nice

The possibilities of a bottom cracking walnuts generates damned near an entire chapter's worth of pictures … therefore you are a spinner of yarns, and yearns of curiosity.

Merely putting words in some sort of order is the lazy cow part.

But then you get to seeing the patterns, genius emerges and the "some sort of order" attracts poignant relevence and revelationary insight for the delight of all who read such obsession.

That you differentiate lies from fantasy can only be because your audience is conditioned that way. Only fools believe truth can be told, or seek it in the words of others – wisdom allows flights of imagination without the risk of a lie to dash the future in betrayal.

I love your honesty about yourself and am merely noting patterns, not contradicting anything you said.

Thank you, John G, for your unanimous support - so good to have friends!

Taff, lying goes with the territory. Our lying words paint new worlds, new situations, new people. You could call it truth but that lying bastard, Tolkien, convinced me, at eleven, that there really was a place called Middle Earth.

Like I said,G&G, I am an obsessive, lying, lazy, nutty, spinner of yarns. I think most writers fall somewhere into these categories. What fun would it be otherwise? As for my walnut cracker, perhaps a poem is in order - any offers?

You make me laugh. As well as inform. It's a gift! I really should visit more ... my loss when I don't.

Nice to see you when you do, CB.

Excellent list!
I loved every one.
I especially loved the organized hooligans and the embroidered truth. I think all of us do that, but very few will admit it... and you made it sound lovely.
I'm going to use that term in the future but I will always give you credit for it.

Thanks for doing the list!
And, I was careful to make note that it wasn't a meme, that it was a writing project because I know how you feel about memes.

Very nice!

I know a meme when I see one, Scarlett, but no worries.

I get a bit nervy around awfur types who talk about their 'process' and the technicalities of writing.
If it feels good then just fucking do it, and stop fannying around!

Ouch. I've been tagged for this too.

Would you notice/mind if I just copied and pasted yours? Hmmm?

Unknown said...

I'd notice Debi! ;)
So Minx you are an obsessed, lying, lazy nutter who spins yarns and apart from the lazy (come on who are you kidding?) it sounds just about right!

Unknown said...

Hoo hoo, Tarty! Where are you then?

Muts, you're right - I can cook a meal, do the ironing and talk on the phone all at the same time.

Help yourself, Debi, I don't mind (see 4).

Oh, you have no idea how lazy I am - I even sit down to pee.

Good list, Minx. I'm crap at maths too (most creative types are). I've also been tagged for this one.

I have been told not to say that I am crap at maths - I can go shopping all by myself and can add the price of two pairs of boots in less than a second.
What I don't see is the beauty in maths, only the intricacy of the words all adding up to one beautiful piece.
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
- WB Yeats

beautiful, no?

Taffiny said...

beautiful yes.

Wish men would sit down to pee.
Ah the joys of cleaning up after boys.

You are all that, Minx, and much more. For me, too, the worlds of my mind are so much more real than the "real" world.

We knew I was a writer when at six I got my first diary. Unhappy with the course of my day, I rewrote it to something more, um, adventuresome. I love the fairy in your header Minx!

Unknown said...

Me too, Taffiny. Often wondered about some sort of funnel and pipe contraption for the boys.

Just wish the real world wouldn't interfere so much, Vesper.

Nice piece of embroidery, Kat, glad it continues.

It's fun to see how this meme has gotten around and to read the answers of others. I did it last week.

I think the professional lazy cow may be one of the most unique answers yet.

I think it takes a little nut to be a writer or a nut cracker.
