How would I get through the day without music? I wouldn't. It gets me out of bed in the morning, sees me off to work, chills me out at lunchtime and unwinds me at the end of the day.
In a discussion the other night with friends we were thinking of our favourites but as we are all heavily into music (three play in bands) there was no way we could just choose one definitive piece of music.
Here are my choices for different moods:
Chill out........ Zero 7
Sunday breakfast........ Putamayo, music from the coffee lands
Pre-boogie....... Dr John
Apres boogie ......Portishead
Laughing......The Saw Doctors
Stirring classic ....... Pavane, Faure
Sexin' it up ..... 'You do something to me', Paul Weller
Angry at the cow at work....You oughta know.... Alanis Morrisette
Memories...... 'My Father', Alison Limerick
Singing in the car (today) ..... 'Heaven', Corinne Bailey Ray
Spiritual injection......Raphael, Songs to disappear in
....and about a thousand others that change daily!!

Another bitter failure, don't know any of these--- but I recognise some of the singers' names from the MP's CDs. One thing about I Pods is that you can no longer stay even vicariously in touch!
(Don't get me wrong, I do love music, but just a bit weird about what I like.)
Just where would we be without music, eh? I've always got music on. I can't go a day without it. I love most music, depending on my mood. With all the crap in my life at the moment I've been listening to Black Sabbath, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Bram Stoker's Dracula soundtrack. Also when I feel down I love the blues and hearing someone like Clapton play out my pain on his guitar makes me feel a lot better. (I'd play it if I could but I'm useless at guitar - I just sing). When I'm in a better mood I play alot of pop from the 80s (when I can feel like a teen again!).
Out of all the tracks you've listed, Minx, I only know one - Paul Weller. I love that song.
Hmmm... they're all foreign to me. But I'll go along with the hundreds and thousands that change daily. Sometimes I put them on cakes, other times I listen to them.
That Paul Weller song is one of the most beautiful ever written. I used to play it endlessly in the car, the volume right up. Made me deliciously sad. I'll put in on tonight when I have a glass of wine after a hard day's blogging. Sends a shiver down my spine just anticipating it.
Saw PW in concert last year, he did this song and I melted into a heap.
Jeff Buckley's version of 'Hallelujah' and 'Hope There's Someone' by Antony and the Johnsons does the same job, oh and......
Minx, we must be soulmates. I love both those songs too.
Pund, I saw the comment that Lynne left you about depression and music.
She is right, to an extent, music can lift your soul and spirit. It can't cure depression but it can by-pass the dark, get deep inside and touch your good bits, for a while!
Try a bit of 'Raphael' on your darker days, it helps.
Raphael (from Amazon)
- 'Music to disappear in' 1 and 2,
- 'Intimacy',
- 'Angels of the deep'
Also recommend a small dose of 'Lunz', 'Air' or 'Aqualung' for those musical miseries!
Ever thought of doing a "meme" for this, Minx?
