Cake Whore

She gave her waist to the man in the chip shop
Freely given from a generous soul
A portion of grease disguised as comfort

Wrapped in newspaper to patch a hole

Pregnancy stole, as often happens
her rights over tits and hips and thighs
Video hell from Fonda and Co was
never going to bring her down to size

She offered herself to the girl in the cake shop
drowning sorrow in lemon meringue pies
hiding the evidence in too tight jeans
fresh cream fancies and fresh cream lies

He amused himself with the woman from the health shop
as she whored herself to the takeaway king
He left her then, his fatted calf
she could have crumbled, but here's the thing
setting a foot on a new kind of path
learning to love oneself before all others
Guarantees a lasting kind of laugh

It's the first step that feels lethal. As usual.

You is firstest, John G, well done.

Thanks Roberta, nice compliment.

I wrote this one ages ago, John, about someone I know. She is happily married now, a little thinner and much, much wiser!

In a society that is obsessed with weight, we should be looking at what makes us eat all the crap we do.

You are what you eat, Red, and I am almost pure chocolate! Heh.

And I am a Double Decker.

Oh, Jan, interesting - you are many layered!

I suppose I have to add that I do eat other things - wouldn't want you to think that I was a complete chocolate whore.

'a complete chocolate whore' -

Yep.

It is so very wrong that I'm hungry now, isn't it?

How like me to miss point.

Minx said...

No, not at all, Taff, eat and be merry. The poem is about eating in misery, so just eat when you are happy!

Hi again. It's me, L>T with a new blog persona. Not so "concerned"(if you know what I mean) I don't eat chocolate or pastries, but I get my sugar from alcohol. Does that count?

I always love last lines, Jon, means you've finished!

Nice one, Minx!

"She gave her waist to the man in the chip shop."

What a tragicomic ballad...
Now, let me have some more chocolate! :-)

As long as you love yourself, Vesper, you can have as much as you want.

Gams is Merkan slang for a woman's legs.

Loved this.

I gave my "waist not want not" to the baker.
