Pssst

You know when you read one of those blog posts, where there is a huge debate going about why people blog. I get so annoyed when some people accuse commenter's of being sycophantic because they choose to visit a certain blog.
I've visited a certain blog for a long while now and over the last year or so I have got to know a very special woman.

I can't remember who commented on who first, I just remember that I liked this woman's writing voice. A couple of months later, she came to Cornwall and we met on a beach and spent six hours talking. Later in the year she dragged me kicking and screaming through the editing process of Coven of One and came to the Cardiff launch, and then organised the London one for us!

She is a friend that came via the blogs - how cool is that?

And yes, whooo hooooo, she's here again - DEBI ALPER IS SLEEPING UPSTAIRS IN MY HOUSE!

tell Debi to shove over and make room.
Is this sycophantic enough for you...I'm awarding you one of the thoughtful blogger awards Minxy. Next time you call round you can pick it up.

You'd be very welcome, Noony. And , err, thanks, for the 'thoughtfulness'. Quite a few people think that I think a lot, hmmmmmm......

Did she try all the chairs and eat the little feckers porridge too?

One persons sycophancy is another's beamy smile. I see nothing wrong in being good to people. I'd never describe you as sycophantic, Minx, you're great, probably the best hostess in the whole of Cornwall, your book was fantastic and my wife's reading it now ...should I stop. I have trouble spelling psychofancy. :-)

Thanks, Jon, I shall have a go at blushing!

Gasp! You kidnapped that poor woman and have her tied up on the second floor??!!!

Minx! Let her go home!!

;)

Don't wake her up though. It's probably the best nights sleep she's had since starting her camping trip!

*whispers*

...then we shall tiptoe through, as we say hello, and thank the heavens there is a blogosphere.
Look how many wonderful folks we have all found! We'd never have gotten to 'meet' if it wasn't for this.

scarlett & viaggiatore (still being very quiet... shhhh)

It's okay, they're all in the bath now - we've just got back from the beach.

Tonight we get ginned!

I'm jealous. And a beach to boot, especially when you guys are enjoying one of the five fine days that bless you each year. Tell Debi to race one wave for me too.
btw, will someone tell me what sycophantic means. I have a feeling I'v been called this once but the insult has gone over my head since I've lost my dictionary.

ZZZZZZ. Splash. Gurgle.

Ooops - hello everyone!

's good here innit?

Mmmm.

I have to warn you that she is a clone - the real Debi is at my house...

not sycophantic at all in my opinion, I wasn't at all flattered by feeling stupid and having to go look the word up. -A person who tries to win people's favour by flattering them.- Though now that I am on this comment page, it is good to see Roberta being kind to us denser folks.

When did this happen in the world? That anything could be turned around into a negative, that things like being nice, kind to people, friendly and supportive became considered sycophantic and bad?

phish

Of course don't take my word for anything, I am trying to defy the world, and embrace being sentimental as a good thing rather than some icky horrible way for a person to be, as "they" so have deemed it.

Oh don't worry about "them", we all think you are marvelous.
Are you starting to like me a bit?
Maybe this will help.
You are truly wonderful. Smart and funny. Cute, clever...
How 'bout now, do you like me now?

Taffiny:

LOL! That was exquisite!

While we are all jealous of Minx and her visitor, we must respect that they are enjoying a good "ginning" and we shall have to wait until they get back to their prospective universes. Where we, the commoners will have to pick up the pieces. ;)

I've been there, done that. I think I need to go stick my head in a bucket or take a vacation. That I will do. Outta town folks. Be back in a bit.

Saaleha said...

thanks Roberta and Tiffany. I think you're both wonderful. I guess that means that you are now obliged to like me :p

no, no, the real Debi is hidden in my attic, I take her out when I feel sorry for myself and she gives me a proper feeling of perspective...

should I be a bit quiet this morning, then?

Anonymous said...

No no the real Debi is here with me now.

Hang on. I AM the real Debi. Which I suspect might mean I've just disappeared up my own arse.

Ah well. It's rather nice here and there's some wonderful company so I reckon I'll just carry on hanging out.

Anonymous said...

And now I've gone and hijacked Minx's pooter and done my own post on the very same subject (ie how blessed I feel - not the bit re my arse).

Taffiny seems a bit sour, I shall pop over with my massage oils...

Unknown said...

Will the real Debi please stand up.

Oh, there you are. What are you doing down there? I can see you. Stop snarfing all Minx's chocolate!

Taffiny said...

uh-ha! Mutley- now I know where you came from. I knew you couldn't be hanging around listening to my plant ramblings on the regular.

Sour, me? hhmmm...I don't like to think so.

Thinking of massage does reminds me...when younger, if Bob and I got into a fight of sorts, he would often start to rub my neck, because then I would stop walking away, and stop talking. I would stand perfectly still, and be quiet. Worked like a charm. Shame really, that he doesn't bother with that tactic anymore.

Lee said...

OK, you'll just have to be annoyed with me - join the club! Not all commenters are sycophants, but I'm convinced many are - present company excepted, of course.

Unknown said...

She can't hear you, Vanilli, she's lying in the surf.

Careful Taffiny, given half a chance Mutley will be in there!

Lee, I know you are right. There are many blogs that encourage their commentors to fawn and drop sugar coated praise all over the place. Not likely to happen here because most of you are too busy bantering with one another and engaging in surreal discussions about knickers or cats, or both.
A little ego trip is good for all, and none of us can deny that it makes one feel good to have a bit of a pat on the back, but if you all got too soppy I think I would have to hit you round the head with a dead cucumber.

Wanderlust Scarlett said...

Now Minx, we've just gotten done with the last food fight, and here you are threatening another one!

I KNEW I should have bought monkeyballs.

Thanks for that history btw, that was great!!

Lee said...

You do realise the symbolism inherent in a dead cucumber, don't you?

Say hi to Debi from me!

Unknown said...

I really have no idea what you're talking about, Lee!

Lee said...

Aha, I finally get to be mysterious ...

I think that is seriously, seriously cool. Because of where i live - namely middle of nowhere - I spend alot of time in cyberspace and I have ''met'' people there who have, through the power of their voices, given me spadeloads of courage at a time in my life when I was wobbling. Corny? perhaps. But bloody cool all the same. here's to friendships made in the Land of Blog.

You're right, Mem. I am not sure what I expected from blogging but I know that so far I have met some lovely people that I will never forget. Meeting some of them in the flesh has been an added bonus, and confirms for me that blogging can have a very positive effect on your life.

You're all just gorgeous really!
